My Main Site is Off Line

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My main site will be down for a while until I get it fixed. I am working with my server to clean up the mess caused by a hacker. This is bad and happened right after I cleaned up all the spam here at the forum. They got into my FTP and added all sorts of crap malware into my site and it is well hidden.

Just sad that someone will go this far to mess up ones livelihood...

Sorry for any problems this may cause...

G'Day Bill

We were getting so much spam on our forum, we totally shut down the registration and now the only registration is to email me personally and I will manually add the people to the forum. As you know from when you joined. I know it's a pain in the ass, but we haven't had any spam since.

Cheers

Sorry to hear, but your server host should be able to quickly figure out how they gained access and what files they edited.

Yes indeed and IPOWER has fixed the problem and I just have to wait for Google to review things now.

The forum is hosted by IP Board...

Be sure to update all your passwords, especially your ftp password. Good to hear they cleaned up the malicious code, at least you know you have a good host. Did they pinpoint the hackers point of entry?

Any more spammers showing up on the forums? If so, enable IPB's free spam service. The question challenge will get rid of the bots, but to get rid of the human spammers, IPB's spam service will help, but you will still get a few spammers. When you get a spammer, be sure to flag them as a spammer so the information is sent to IPB's spam service and stored in their database.

In addition, have at least two or three question and answer challenges.

I see you have no-followed enabled, so their links won't hurt your google page rank.

I hear all forums are being hit hard as some have suggested googles reCAPTCHA has been cracked by spammers.

I'm not surprised by that news. I've had anywhere from 150-200 spammers try to sign up for my forum in the past few days. Luckily, I have to manually approve any new members and they're easy to spot and shoot down :thumbsupanim

That is definitely a good idea if you are getting hit by a massive attack Matt. Luckily I haven't had any trouble with spammers on any or my forums. I have a couple challenge questions and the IPS spam service turned on so no problem on any of my forums yet...
