Hi all, I'm new here at the forum also new in the gold prospecting hobby, I talked with some old miners here in Baja, I get some basic tools, so Im starting prospecting for gold here, I know a lot of people are saying that Baja is too dangerous (and it is) but I'm already here, so Ill just take advantage of that and start looking for some gold, so any advice from the experienced prospectors will be well received.

Great forum!

Zurdok,

Just where are you at in Baja? I would like to hear more about prospecting in modern day Mexico. I have heard that some of the gold fields are untouched, as far as detecting goes. Did the miners you talked to say what kind of gold was in your area?

Welcome to the forum!

What type of equipment will you be using?

Don't know anything about that area and will be interesting to see how you do.

Hey Bill, thank you for the welcome, Ok, what kind of equipment, a metal detector, a shovel, a dry washer, a panning kit. I think that's all I have for now.

Is a desert and there's a lot of hot rocks, but the soil is not hard, it can be easily removed with the shovel.

Tell me what too look for, Ill let you know.

I used to spend a bunch of time in LA Bay, way back when the center of town was still the runway. My buddies used to have trailers right on the beach near the runway. We were all pilots so it was a great place to go. Some of those washes to the North sure looked good to me but I never took any prospecting equipment.
