Prospecting legalities topic

Recommended Posts

Doing a search for threads relating to laws and regulations about propsecting, metal detecting, meteorite and gold nugget hunting, etc. I find threads scattered all over the forum, but hard to find.

Suggestions:

1) create a topic for posts relating to laws and regulations pertaining to prospecting, etc. where they will be easy to find; Could be subdivided into federal laws and state/local laws;

2) make a sticky of threads within a topic, such as meteorite hunting or gold prospecting, that refer to laws and regulations so they will be easy to find.

Thanks for considering this.

A forum of that nature would be useful except for the difficulty of keeping track of the changing face of laws, regulations, administrative rules, permits, etc..

Federal lands alone have BLM, national forest, national parks, wilderness areas, wild and scenic rivers, wildlife refuge, national monuments and maybe a few others. Within these there are permanent closures, temporary closures, closures that arrive overnight without warning seeming at the whim of the local field office.

For me local knowledge by forum users is a darn good way to get a quick answer. For instance, recently a specific question was posted regarding geode hounding along with gold prospecting in Gold Basin/Meadeview area. An answer was quick including advice that metal detecting is a no no in national parks.

I'm not trying to dis your opinion; just adding my 2 cents.

Thanks, bcache. That's exactly why I'm suggesting this. If there was a distinct topic to post such things in, it would be so much easier for others to find the info there, as well as having a place for folks to go to ask questions without getting lost in other threads in another topic.

Maybe it don't make sense. I though it might be useful.

Yes Ed, I misunderstood a little. I see what you are suggesting now. A forum topic something like, when I get where I'm going what can I do and not do?

The various forum topics do that now but not with a specific topic. I have not been with the forum very long but I've noticed that there are few changes made. I would think for good reason. Bill Sutherland who is responsible for the forum is probably busy enough and the forum as it stands works well.

Again, just my dos centavos. Along with have a good and productive 2011.
