Post count to sell here?

Chris ... I'll reply a little stronger than Bill wants to do being the diplomat that he is. On the other hand I tend to be a little outspoken ...I like this forum ... I don't see a need for a change beyond those that Bill has already made ... it makes no differnece to me if it is one time poster or hundred times poster. The poster has his/her reasons for lurking, posting or post then run. And then there are the lurkers that have been here for years ... they are welcome too ... some will eventually post and share their experiences. In short ... All are welcome as far as I am concerned so long as they are legitimate posters and not spammers. I post because I like to; or have an opinion based on someone elses post or someone is looking for information that I might be able to share because I have some knowledge of that particular subject. Sometimes I even start a thread but not often. It takes all kinds to make a forum like this as good as it is. In short to charge for a classified add ... my opinion only ... on a forum like this that is so member driven would be a slap in the face to the membership and probably lead to fewer members and therefore fewer posts. In short information would not be shared and successful nuggget hunting experiences will go unnoticed and even the failures that are posted are learning experiences and should be posted in order that they be shared. So even though I believe you have a good idea and a reasonable explanation for doing it that way I don't believe it would be in the best interest of the members of this forum ... or non-members(aka lurkers) for that matter ... just my 2 cents for the moment.

Mike,

While I both respect and appreciate your reply, the only reason I posted is because obviously the one time posters DO matter to some, including Bill. If they didn't matter this thread would have never been started. And yes, I too like the forum that Bill provides us. But I also know that it can be costly to run a site like this as well. If paying a minimal fee for using the classified section is a "slap in the face" to some users, then they too are only concerned with themselves. I, personally, would not see it that way. I would see it as a way to help someone (Bill) who has helped so many others with the creation and continuing maintenance of this site. The vast majority of the folks on here I'm sure do not make a living selling items on this site. Again, thanks for the response and happy hunting.

I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but by asking this question on the open forum, doesn't that just let the "one-time wonders" know that all they have to do is bop around the forum for 5 minutes placing irrelevant posts, THEN go and place the ad? As sad as it is, is the 10 post thing really going to stop the fact that they sell their item after 10 posts...

Just my opinion!

Chris Coffee,

Haveing people make multiple posts before using the classified gives members a idea about if they want to deal with that person.....people with low post counts/new join dates or stupid posts get ignored.

The classifieds is about trust. That the thing for sale is as advertised, scammer rarely take the time to extablish themselves. If it feels hinky or to good to be true, pass.

wonderer

I totally agree that the classifieds is all about trust. You have to be comfortable with a person to want to spend your hard earned cash with them. A lot of people are taking my suggestion to heart and considering it a personal attack (not you) and all I was doing was trying to stop the crooks from ripping folks off and also help Bill with some funds to keep the forum maintained. Most people who are looking to get money for nothing won't spend their own money to do it.

Another suggestion I would make that WOULD NOT require users to pay would be for forums such as this to incorporate a Feedback Forum. When a buyer or a seller involves themselves in a transaction there should be a forum dedicated to posting feedback, good or bad, on the individuals involved. It does not have to be item specific or give details about the transaction. Just a basic, " Bought an item from username John Doe and the transaction went smooth. Good honest seller!"....that type of thing. That way there is nobody feeling they are being picked on or abused because of paying for a listing and a potential buyer/seller can search for the other parties feedback before agreeing to a deal. Just my two cents.
