These were melted gold used to smuggle as contraband on Spanish ships so no tax would have to be paid. They were also used as pay for pirates.photo by Bob SpratleyBill in the early 90's an old prospector who did a lot of research on the Spanish miners inArizona told me the Spanish would cut a cactus plant stem...don't remember which one...then they would hollow it out and soak it...then pour the gold inside...he said he found four ofthem...so they would be about the same size as yours....
