Meteorite values

Recommended Posts

If I go dig up a seated dime, I can look up it's value in a book. Is there a book on current values of specific meteorites? I realize that the market fluctuates because new specimens of certain falls and finds quantities are always changing as more are discovered. If not a book, is there a continually updating web site on values?

I think the only book of that type is Kevin Kachinka's price guide that he made in 2008. (I bought it) I don't think he's made one since. If there is a price (retail) that you want on a particular meteorite, I might be able to help you out. He only listed a price per gram where he could get three or more dealers prices to average.

I use ebay (advanced search -----> completed listings) to see the price that a particular meteorite has sold or hasn't sold for.

This should put you in the ball park. B)

Hi Joe,

The name of it is "The Global Meteorite Price Report", by Kevin Kachinka. Mine is a 2008 issue. I don't know if he has a 2010 issue or not but, you can find out through his email contacts: MARSROX@gmail.com or www.theartofcollectingmeteorites.com. If you just want one price in particular let me know.

Ben,

I am looking for prices on Meteorites found in Iowa Ex: Estherville, Forest City, Mapleton, Alvord, Lonetree, Homestead, Marion, Belmont etc. as I am deciding on which to hunt and since I am in Iowa, I figured I would hunt the most valuable of those first. My diesel truck gets a whopping 8.4 MPG :nutty: So I gots to be choosy. :hahaha:
