greetings from the uk

Recommended Posts

hi all

i after watching the great new programme meteorite men i was hooked

i would like to search for them in the uk but not sure how to begin

i have been a detectorist for 20 years and not sure if this will help as most uk land has iron contamination in it ,old settlements etc

most land here is pasture or ploughed up

and its wet

over there you seem to be better off with desserts etc

any advice would be much welcomed thanks

Hi Daz! I suppose your first step is to identify any known strewnfields in your area. The second would be to make sure you have the right equipment for the job, and to train your eyes to see what you are looking for. This forum is a great place to start your research, as there are some smart cookies here with years of experience under their belts. Good Luck - and keep us posted! - Terry

If I was living in England like you, I would be hunting for those silver and gold roman or viking caches I see being dug up in the farm fields every now and then. ;) Even finding artifacts would be fantastic.

England has a very wet climate and as you well know, that is not conducive to meteorites as they will quickly rust. But Terry is right. The best place to start is the Met Soc. Look up the locations in your country.

Good luck,
