Prospecting Buddy (ies) Wanted

Recommended Posts

I have experience in prospecting and mining gold (panning, sluicing, sniping, dredging, dry-washing, metal-detecting) in California, Northeastern Nevada, Alaska and points in-between...and a little website dedicated to miners and detectorists called GorpStew.com. These days most of my nugget hunting is done with my Minelab detectors (Eureka Gold and GPX-4000). I'm 64 and love to camp, hike, and nugget hunt even the most isolated and rugged of terrains. I recently moved to Carson City, NV, where I don't know anyone interested in prospecting, and I know nothing specific about the area's prospecing potential, beyond what I read in the library. If there's anyone (male or female) with knowledge of the area whom is interested in getting together for a little bleeping (weather permitting), please get in touch. Either post here telling me how to contact you or send me a PM through the forum. (I posted this same thread in the "Gold Nugget Shooting Forum.")

Happy Holidays,

Jason

I forget their names, but 1 or 2 card dealers at the Gold Dust west casino in Carson city are beepers. They do well working the Lake Tahoe beaches in summer hunting jewelry lost by swimmers, etc. One found a nice 1 carat diamond ring, a couple years back.

There are a LOT of good places outside Carson City to beep and/or pan/sluice in the summer. Around Virginia city is a good relic hunting area, plus about any drainage running off the Virginia city site towards Dayton carry some placer gold.

Over towards Markleeville Ca is another good area not far from Carson city. Up around the Centerville flat old town site & further up around Silver Mountain there are a couple old town sites, and mine workings all over the place. Square nails all over the place around those old town sites.

Howdy James-

Good to hear from you. It would sure be loads of fun to make a prospecting trip to Latin America, but there's no way I can make it...at least this season, I just can't get away! I hope you hook up with somebody good to prospect with and that you get lots of gold down there. Good luck to ya, and have a great holiday season! Maybe we can get together for a little bleeping some other time.

Greetings, Where in Texas are you? I lived in the DFW are in the mid-late 80's. Enjoyed it there. I purchased an Ecuadorian gold report, and one of the many alluvial gold sources comes from buried eroded archeological artifacts. I assume there must be a lot of buried treasure there. I believe this place could be a potential place to find a wealth of gold. I read about an ancient civilization that buried their treasure during their wars; they could never find it afterward. What do you know about the recent change in mining laws? It seems that concession holders may have to pay a 50% tax on gold. I have a link to a site that is very similar to the Geo communicator. Are you familiar with gradiometry and percussion drilling? There are hidden tertiary rivers in the jungles very rich in auriferous material. Cheers!

Hey Jason,

We live in Sparks NV, and the family and I hit up the local club spots (CGP and WSPA) in both Northern Nevada and Northern California. We would be happy to meet up with some fellow prospectors. Shoot me a PM.

Hi Jason. You might have great luck if you contact Daryl and Jennifer Nelson at the Reno Prospectors Supply in Reno, NV. They have been there for years and know lots of folks. They are also active prospectors themselves. Happy hunting. John

Hi Jason,

I am new to this forum as well as the way to use a forum. Hope this turns out. Anyway, I have been mostly panning for approx 30 yrs with limited success. I live in Fernley which is close to Carson City. My son and me would like to meet some fellow prospectors and locate some good placer areas. Been doing some research on the local areas and hope to be getting a gold detector soon. Am looking at a Whites GMT. Can't afford a PI unit. Let me know if you want to some prospecting with us. Would like to here from anybody else in the area also.

Thanks,

Tom aka Reno Tom

Hi Jason,

Live just South of you in Minden. Would love to do some nuggetshootin with you. I'm new to the hobby, but know the area pretty well. I'm in Carson every day, would gladly stop by and say hey.

Thanks Bill. I appreciate the info and will keep trying to learn to navigate my way around and learning how to do this forum stuff. Just like my prospecting - I'm constantly learning. And giving up is not an option. Thanks again.

Hey spa in nv,

Me and my son are going to try to make it down to the Minden area within the next few weeks. Think we're supposed to get some good snow this weekend. Wouldn't mind meeting up with someone who knows that area - it's not far for us since we live in Fernley. Getting a gold detector very soon and will be wanting to use it. Let me know.

Pine Nut Mountains!

Eldorado,

I live at the base of the Western side of the Pinenuts. I have been doing a lot of reading about the mining in the Pinenuts. A lot of gold has been taken out. Do you have any helpful info?

Hi Tom,

Sounds good. I'm new at the nuggetshooting and am also getting a new machine any day now. I guess we'll learn together.

How old is your son? My son is 15.
