Prospecting Buddy (ies) Wanted

Recommended Posts

I have experience in prospecting and mining gold (panning, sluicing, sniping, dredging, dry-washing, metal-detecting) in California, Northeastern Nevada, Alaska and points in-between...and a little website dedicated to miners and detectorists called GorpStew.com. These days most of my nugget hunting is done with my Minelab detectors (Eureka Gold and GPX-4000). I'm 64 and love to camp, hike, and nugget hunt even the most isolated and rugged of terrains. I recently moved to Carson City, NV, where I don't know anyone interested in prospecting, and I know nothing specific about the area's prospecing potential, beyond what I read in the library. If there's anyone (male or female) with knowledge of the area whom is interested in getting together for a little bleeping (weather permitting), please get in touch. Either post here telling me how to contact you or send me a PM through the forum. (I posted this same thread in the "Gold Prospecting Forum.")

Happy Holidays,

Jason

Jason,

Go check out the Nugget Casino in town...they use to have a heck of a collection. You might meet another prospector eyeballing them nuggets too!

Hey thanks luckyLundy...I'll do just that!

There's gold all over Nevada--it's a real hot spot for gold--now there's an understatement!! I stopped at Goldfield, and Tonopah last year on my way to Reno and had a look around at the mining sites there--pretty impressive. There's lots of active prospectors/prospecting in Nevada--if I was living there, I'd go with you in a heartbeat, but when I visit Nevada, it's usually Vegas, as I have a son that lives there.

See if there's a gold prospector's club in your area--talk to Doc in Vegas (online at Doc's Place) he might know of someone in your area that you can connect with. Go online and do a search of Nevada ghost towns--there's some good sites with pictures of lots of the ghost towns and old mining sites in Nevada--some even give directions. You might get some contact information off of them, or at least get a reference or two of someone to talk with that might be able to connect you with a reliable prospecting partner.

It blew me away just how many old mine sites there are in Nevada. Most of the time it was a water problem that kept the miners from the gold, not a lack of gold!

All the best.

Larry-

Thanks a bunch for your input...all good observations and suggestions! I have lived and prospected in Nevada for several years...Northeastern NV. I've had fun and found my share of gold. I just recently moved to Northwestern NV where I am not very well informed about gold prospecting opportunities. I am especially interested in the Comstock District as it was super productive and is within easy driving distance. But I prospect and bleep other areas too, such as the Mother Lode and Mojave Desert.

Thanks for your advice; I really appreciate it, and good luck!

It sounds like you're well on your way then--good luck, and do you have any gold hunting stories to share about your detecting adventures? I'd love to read them.

Hi Lanny-

Sorry I called you "Larry" before...my eyes must be getting bad. Anyway, yeah, here's a couple:

How I Found My First "Whopper" Gold Nugget

Digging Gold in the Mojave Desert

More stories

Take care Lanny, maybe we'll run into each other one day in the nugget patch. Good luck,

Jason

Thanks Jason--my eyes do the same thing to me from time to time. Thanks for the story links, and it would be great to run into you one day on a hunt too!

All the best,

Lanny
