FrogMick
Ok pics turned out to small to see and I dont know how to resize sorryYou aren't the first one to have problems with this new format, I sure had my share of them. One way to post photos easily is Photobucket or a similar free photo site that gives you easy to use tools and good help section. I use Photobucket a lot for photos on forums. The "Direct Link" for your picture works great with the "Insert Image" here in the writing a post set-up. The old El Capitan Casino was one of my favorite pit stops between Vegas and Reno/Carson. I haven't been through Hawthorne in 20 years. Is the El Capitan still going strong?

Terry Soloman
Here are two examples I came across in the Bradshaw Mountains, 20-miles north of Lake Pleasant. I think these are "Pictographs"(?). - Terry
Goldfinger
Terry - Nice finds!!! Kind of surprised they aren't in someones backyard. Any idea what they mean? There's a number of petroglyphs or pictographs in the Stanton area although you really have to look for them. They all have a patina which makes it difficult to see the designs on the stones. Terry Soloman
Yes! These are directly across from the base of the "Turkey Foot," on the West side of Rich Hill, about 200-yards north of the new overflow lot at Stanton. The ones in the previous post both celebrate - and document, a tribe's journey. The Arizona Yavapai and Apache, may have started their journey to Arizona in prehistoric times from Brazil. The animals and scorpions on the boulder in this post are all about hunting and giving thanks. I have given myself no more than an elementary self-education on this subject so please, if anyone knows more - holla! Cheers! - Terry
Goldfinger
Wasn't aware of that one by the turkey track. There's a number of them right across that road going to Yarnell from Stanton but you really need to look closely for them.. They don't show up like most of them do.Steve
Guest bedrock bob
A petroglyph is incised into the rock. A pictograph is painted on the rock. No one really knows what any of them mean, althought a few fellows will tell you that they do. It was atr, and if anyone can look at it and interpret what the artist meant they are nothing short of a prophet. One of my best friends has devoted his life to photographing these and has a huge collection of them from New Mexico. A film maker named Erin Hudson recently made a movie about him. it is called "In place out of time" I posted a link when the movie came out but got very few responses. I have a copy of this movie if anyone would like to see it. It is a real good documentary about a fellow prospector that has devoted his life to petroglyphs and pictographs.Bob
Guest bedrock bob
Here is a link to Erin Hudsons site where you can see a trailer or purchase the DVD. If anyone wants to see the film I can send a copy and we can pass it around.http://www.rotationfilms.com/Embree Hale, my good friend and benefactor, and the subject of this documentary, has recently had a heart attack and will probably not be around for too much longer. If anyone wants one of his pices of artwork, or to see the film about him, it would be wise to do it while you still can. A prospector all his life and he has a bunch of stories to tell. It is free for the asking, so dont miss your opportunity to ask.Bob

Guest bedrock bob
Found these last week wonder what they mean,,Sorry wasnt sure where to post them..Any Ideas folks.Sorry about the picture quality. These pics look like a stone claim marker. Definitely not Indian. I cant make them out really good but the date 1899 and the letters are not indicitive of native art at all. Not Spanish either in my opinion, for whatever that is worth. Looks like turn of the century white boys using the rock as a claim marker.Bob
moondog
Hi, I saw your post(s), I've always been interested in petroglyphs. Anyways, I bought a pretty good book on deciphering or attempting to decipher them, it's called "The Rocks Begin to Speak", If nothing less, it's got good pictures of petroglyphs, from the mid-west and west. The amazon link is below. Clifton http://www.amazon.com/Rocks-Begin-Speak-Lavan-Martineau/dp/0916122301
kuger
Found these last week wonder what they mean,,Sorry wasnt sure where to post them..Any Ideas folks.Sorry about the picture quality.Good luck I have seen hundreds of them and ocassionaly can make out something I recognize.I sometimes wonder if they were smoking something when they drew them, but they knew what they meant and they were usually in sacred areas.I have even seen some that looked an awful lot like what I would picture a martian looking like! HighPlainsSifter
I know its been a few days on this and the quality of the pictures arent great. But I do have one question. If these were very very old, would the etching not have more patina? The first pic looks like it was etched last week.

The date 1899 is not long enough to get patina started. Yup...just like they were done yesterday. It was yesterday in geological age...
