Jeff Pike
I was contracted to re-open the Lovitt Mine last year (closed in '67 after production of 410,000 oz. Au and 600,000 oz. Ag). My girlfriend and I were the first to go in with detectors and were rewarded with a few nice scraps for our effort... These are from the 1250 level, station 39D + 28 (3928' inside. Not found with the Minelab...found as usual with the Goldbug. We were looking for the remnants of the 1956 pocket known as "Nellie's Room" where an estimated 24,000 ounces of wire gold/electrum was found in a 15x18x20'space. They didn't leave much... Jim Marr, the sole surviving underground miner from the Lovitt is on board as a consultant now. His stories about the gold they found while mining are rather eye-opening and make me lose sleep
Terry Soloman
Great post Jeff, and way cool pictures! I have friends here in Arizona that use Gold Bugs and a micro-blaster in old gold mines. They have had some great luck - and also have a few stories that will make the hair on your arms stand up! Jeff Pike
we use a micro blaster too - great little machine! I will try to post a video of a little specimen pocket we knocked out last winter and photos of the pieces after etching with HF... just shy of an ounce, nice sponge and wire with some galena pseudomorphs after wire gold... pretty stuff! My outboard drive with all of my photos is still in wenatchee and I am trapped after a failed alternator on an Ellensburg Blue agate trek... may be a couple days but I will keep the pictures flowing Cheers to all,Jeff
