Mesquite Placers

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Been a while since I've posted. Since it is so cold in Deming, NM, I decided to spend the winter at the slabs.

Has anyone worked the Mesquite placers just north west of Yuma. I'm only 60 miles away and want to do a day trip over there to sample.

Any input would be appreciated.

AZHal,

Trigo MTs N of Martinez Lake and Red Cloud mine. Indian Res/YPG/good gold/.

It takes about 35 minutes for the YPG security to arrive in your camp and about 4 hours to drive out! You know who wins :laught16::laught16:

You and Allen doing any beeping? How about the patch in Jackson Gultch??

Max

Not familiar with the Mesquite placers but live here in Yuma. Unless you are talking about the Mesquite Mine area. PM if you are interested getting together while you are here. Hal

We were going to go out today, but yesterday the jeep crapped out on me and had to have it towed back to the house. It is an electrical problem and it is going to take me a while to fix it I am affraid :grrr01: . So I guess the only beeping I am going to be doing is in the back yard :icon_mrgreen:

Could you please define YPG? I dont' go to that area but have considered it.

Scratch that it finally clicked. Yuma proving grounds.. That is was I thought it was about but was thinking of it as bombing range and couldn't make the letters fit.

I went to the Trigos a few years ago. What a spot. Wound up near the Red Cloud on the river. Thought that I might do some spearfishing. Spent many hours trying to fight my way throught the palmetto to get to the water. Gave up and climbed back up the canyon to the truck.

Didn't have any trouble with the military at all. Found a little color in the washes and saw a few desert bighorn. Went back to L. Martinez and had to pay to get to the water. It was then I found out you can only spearfish for carp in Arizona. Took a airboat ride right back up the river to the spot where I started out. WHat a nice river.

What a hoot! That is neat country.

There is a lot of claims just across that All American canal by Senator wash. I met a guy there that was detecting a mile or so west under some hardrock mines and he did well. Nice nuggets. I could not find any myself as it was August and the ground I was detecting was molten lava. The plastic on the coil was getting soft. I headed back a couple of days later to some more realistic weather, and fishing.

Most of that area across the canal and betwen the indian res and the LTVA is claimed by the Southwestern prospectors association of San Diego, there are two other claims by a guy who lives on them the year around, he will let you on his claims if you ask.

The Army is a lot more sensitive about trespassers since 9/11, a lot of the Yuma bunch used to go just on the edge of the base on the southern end just off Hiway 95, good gold. Now they have sensors and infared everywhere and it doesn,t take long for them to get to you so people who have been caught say. I myself would not consider it because I am retired military and it would be stupid to risk loosing my beneifits for possible gold. There used to be some prospectors too who mined in the Navy live Fire Range in the Choclate Mts, they also picked up brass to sell, one of them was killed by ordance and a couple got jail time, I would imagine its slowed down, up untill June of this year I ocasionaly preformed oversize truck escort jobs on both ranges moving targets in and out and from what I saw the trash problem would be tremendous with all the stuff they have fired into there just laying around and a lot of it is still unexploded. Besides on days that the range is open for live fire remember that these guys are students and anything is a target to them, even the military police are nervous when on the range!
