The Eureke Gold is one of the most capable gold finding machines on the market. So it will find gold with no problems at all. I found my first few nuggets with mine when I was starting out detecting.

Gold hunting is a combination of three things- 1. knowing how to "effectively" use you detector for whatever ground conditions you encounter. 2. Having the ability to seek out, find, and hunt favorable gold conditions and 3. There is a little luck involved.

You have to realise gold nuggets aren't gonna pop just out of the ground just because you bought a metal detector. If it were that easy everybody and their grandma would be doing it!

Just my :twocents:

Thanks Del

I just need to put in a little more time and effort but it is great to know that my machine is capable!

Hi, and welcome to the forum.

The Eureka Gold is capable of finding gold almost anywhere in the gold fields, but it take alot of pratice and alittle luck. I would suggest to any newcomer that they buy their first nuget either already mounted on a plastic poker chip or mount a nuget yourself onto a piece of plastic. With one through hole through the chip or plastic, tied a color shoestring to it. Praticed at home, in the park, wherever you get a chance, practice, practice. You will soon learned the little audio clues giving to you by the detector with the chip laying flat, at a angle, or on edge. Experiment with it being bury a inch, two inch, etc in different soil. Bring it with you when you go detection and tune your machine to that particular soil or area. It is a great confident builder when you can find it, with the shoe string being buried too. You can praticed with other targets too, lead bullets, pop tops from cans, nickel, dime, etc. But when starting out,and even when you been at it awhile, dig every target! It have happen before, that screaming target that everybody have bypass because it was so close to the road... turn out to be a huge nugget found by a newbie! Good Luck, and stay at it, the friends you will make will outshine the gold you will find.

Another thing you can do for a test nugget is to mount the nug in a fiberglass tube, like an old tent pole or fishing pole. I use the tent poles and epoxy the nug in one end. This way its just a matter of pushing the pole in the ground at an angle to get the depth you want without disturbing the ground. You can strap them to your detector and take them with you in the field.

And the Eureka Gold is a very good detector, it will find gold, just have to put it over a nug.

thank u riverman every little trick helps.

i really want to find at least a dink before i move up on the minelabs, and im getting good feedback from all of u. i have found some rally small pieces of shreaded lead 2 to 3 inches i mean small small so it stands to reason if i pass over one ...beep... but untill then its comforting to know others have with the same machine. ty all again.

Ol'29er

so. cal. ol'29er & yes getting together for a little hunt sounds great, and a big relief for the little woman who goes crazy when i go out by myself for a couple of days. rightfully so.

last week i went up towards randsburg but only made it up as far as goller gulch.

it started getting late i drove back a few miles down red rock randsburg road & went up mesquite canyon road 1.8 miles to a mine where i spent the night brrrrrrrr.

had a great steak dinner but i think i listened to the radio and had the dome light on too long

the next day i wanted to drive up to the shmitt tunnel (never seen it) but my day was wasted waiting for the chp to give me a jump. gotta love him for driving up there & nice and pleasant as could be he

helped me out. found one spot with phone reception thank god. moral of this story is ..probably not wise to be alone in cetain situations.

Do what i do. Just glue one on a poker chip, after drilling out a small hole part way thru. Make sure you attach a string/shoelace on it that way you can always tie it onto something so it wont get lost. Check out the attached pics for reference. Good luck and be safe out there. I use different size nuggets ranging from 1/2 grain to 3 grain to make sure I can "hear" all them little nuggies.

The Eureka is a great machine. I have found several decent nuggets before I upgraded to a GP3500.

Here is a nice 4 dwt found with Eureka Minelab.

http://www.goldfinds.com/index.php?option=...3&Itemid=35

Persistence and a good digging technique are key to finding nuggets.

ScottC

beautiful nugget scott, the only thing i dont like about the eureka is that the stock double d is not waterproof. did u purchase an aftermarket for it? i think minelab only made 1 other coil for it & im not sure if its waterproof. knowing that they put it out as a gold detector i dont know why they would do that. i thought about silicone but minelab told me that if something went wrong the warranty would be void. i have used the warranty once allready drove to vegas & they replaced the coil.(non stop loud threshold sound) would love to know what type of coil u were running. i would like to move up to a p.i. unit but not till i find at least a crumb with the eureka.

thanks scottC

The Eureka cords had some issue's at first they seem to have fixed it on the newer ones. The only available coil is the 14" WOT coil and a good one it is.

A way to learn how to concentrate on being able to find a peice of gold is to close your eyes and toss out a peice say 20 feet behind you.No poker chip , no nothin. Let god decide how fast you learn and how hard you try.

Laugh if you need, but learning will be slow if you know where the gold is placed.

Here's an old thread where a guy actually found a pounder nugget with a Eureka Gold:

Scroll down to post #7 for the mention of the Eureka. Of course, a nugget that size is exceptionally rare. Happy hunting.

thanks john for the info on the coil. i will read up on that. (waterproof etc.) now as far as throwing the only piece of gold i own 20 ft behind me sounds kinda scary lol. and as of yesterday i mounted it on blank- ace domino. tough stuff to drill. believe me john trying hard is a fault i dont have. cant tell u how many pans of material i have sifted though to find that tiny itti bitti shred of lead :Huh_anim]:

but im going to keep at it.

thanks again john. digget.

Hi everyone...my first time on the forum too...thanks to Bill Southern, I'm able to make ithis dang thing work! While I'm not an actual "Newbee" in every respect...I am NEW to the NEW technology....but at least now I am able to hunt again after a good deal of time off with a heart attack...I've moved up...I THINK...from the orgional Gold Bug to the Minelab Eureka Gold...I couldn't afford to get into the "Top Dawgs" like the 3500 or 4000... at least not knowing IF I could do this again!

I found qiute a bit of gold with the old "Bug"...I REALLY think the Eureka has a lot to offer...but boy.. I guess I need a LOT of practice...the one thing I learned from the past... is the value of "ATTITUDE"...an Old timer told me once that "If you don't THINK you are gonna find it...it ain't a gonna happen"! I honestly believe that's true.

The "Bride" won't turn loose of ANY gold we've found! :angry-smiley-010: So I had to go out and BUY a small nug :icon_mrgreen: to epoxy to a poker chip..so I could find out what the dang thing sounded like! Have I SCORED YET? NOPE! Maybe I'm loosing my hearing...heheheh...but ya know what? It's a gonna happen! IF the Good Lord gives me a little time!

Thanks to you all for keeping a GREAT hobby alive...good hunting and good finds to you all! :icon_mrgreen:

Regarding a water proof coil....the Tesoro Lobo has a water proof coil which I find very valuable, and a detachable control box which can be worn on your belt, or floated on a tube. They will also fix any problems for life under the warranty.

Good luck with your decision.
