Lve2fsh
I remember sitting in one and looking out the little hole in the door, I could see out towards the dirt road where everyone had to drive to get into the canyon. Then I got to thinking how the hole got there and I turned around to see the exit hole from the bullet behind me. I was never comfortable using it again after realizing someone had shot at it from 200 yards away.

Kaimi
Wow Allen I sure hope you used a metal detector in the area before you left. I have found some pretty awesome stuff laying within 10 feet of the entry way. I guess they dropped the items while either coming or going into the facilities. Nice pic tho. Paleface
Well i loved the old ones because of the ventilation the new ones on a bad day are :escape: lol Looks like this one is well ventilated, from the look of it, a door, it never had. Reminds me of several modern ones that we have erected using 3 or 4 grouped trees, a tarp and a porta-potty. One of my properties in Chloride has an original WPA one holer, the wood is quite weathered. A few years ago a gentleman offered me $300 for it, my wife would not let me sell it. Since then it has begun to lean, the door has blown off and is stored in a shed, some of the boards have disappeared and probably have become wall plaques in someone's house. :hmmmmmm: Will now take the first $150 offer I get. Will tell the wife that someone stole it. :ph34r2: :slapped: Jim

Don't remember the road but it is back down the highway 93 from Chloride turnoff about 3 miles and went up towards Packsaddle Mountain and the road kept getting worse and worse, We ended up going far enough down the other side that we were commited as we couldn't find a good place to turn the 06 dodge 1 ton extended cab around and some places on the steep rocks I don't think we could have gone back up in 4 wheel drive, One was out in front watching to make sure we didn't bang the transfere case and such as we went inch by inch down the rocky trail, anyway we came out of the bottom wash by the painted rocks, no that was a ride for the video camera but we didn't have one, It was slow going and had to fill in some spots. For a while I thought we were going to have to hike out and get a cat or back hoe to get us off the mountain and I didn't put a scratch on the new truck. I think the trail/road was more for the ATV's. Anyway I know not to take that road again. Allen in MT

I will not even attempt to take my truck thru there. My wife tore the steps off my CJ5 Jeep on that road many years ago. Last thing I remember her saying, ( We will be right back), she, my daughter and her boyfriend came back later. I had to go back up and get the missing parts. You went right by the side trail that leads to where the 2 young girls rode a 3 wheeler into an open mine shaft. The local quad and jeep clubs take that route for excitement. It has some breathtaking views at the top. You can look down on Chloride, turn around and look down and out over Red Lake. Next time, go to the corner of Midnight and Payroll streets, all my old mining equipment, relics ,mine shacks, water tower and of course, the old WPA outhouse are there for photographing.
