I recently got it out to show my nephew an it just started falling apart in my hand? What can I do with it to help save it?
Goldfinger
I don't know if it can be saved or not. Some of the Campos seem to rust really bad- some don't. Regardless- any meteorite should be kept in a very low humidity enviroment. You can purchase dessicants like these which help keep moisture out of the air. http://www.drytheair.com/xcart/store/catal...ant_page_1.html Steve
Beeper Bob
Hi Billy, I don't know alot about meteorites. I have read about some being destroyed from within by trapped moisture it is called lawrencite disease. Put it in a airtight container with some silica gel to absorb the moisture. Mr Hunter Man
one method used to stabilize iron meteorites is to soak it in ethonal for an hour or so, the in an oven for an hour or two at 150 degrees. This should get all the water out. Best, Joe K
