Mr-Meteorite
Hi all, In a few days (the 5th, I think) Meteorite-Times for August will be up. If you click on Ruben's Hunting Grounds you will see that I am back! This time with a series of video's that will put you out in the field with me as I hunt for meteorites. I'll take you step by step and show you how and where I've found many, many meteorites. I'll try to present one new video every month, but no promises, although I do have several readyto go. These videos were pretty much filmed over the last two or three months. They are ment to be just Ruben and his video camera hunting meteorites, nothing fancy. Sometimes I'll make some cool finds sometimes I won't. Sometimes I'll be all alone spending the night in the wilderness, and other times I'll have some friends join me. If you'd like to see how me and others have been making some nice finds be sure to check it out. If you just wanna see how lame my acting is then stay tuned..... P. S. If you wanna see some other videos I have already put on you tube. Just go to www.youtube.com and search for Meteorite Hunter. Bob Haag and Rob Matson also have some cool video's. Mr Hunter Man
Ruben, that sounds very interesting. It will be cool to see you out there hunting meteorites, not very often do we get the chance to see how people hunt meteorites, especially someone we all know and have respect for. It is good to see you back in the mix. Looking forward to watching all of them. Best Wishes, Joe Kerchner

Wadnobie
Thanks for the link and the video. I spent so much time over there I forgot I was logged on to the forum. Look forward to part two. --Perry--
Mr-Meteorite
Thanks Perry, It was fun to do! Part 2 (which is next months video) is already done. It will feature the dynamic duo of Mike and Paul and we all get to show off some small but cool finds. As you can see from Mikes latest post these guys are very good meteorite hunters! SoCalNovice
Ruben, Great job with the video. I look forward to seeing number two and others. I assume #2 will show how you hunt the surface of the Dry Lakes which I am interested in seeing. I can imagine it's a pain to lug around a camera and film yourself hunting. In the desert heat I can't even get myself to stop and take a photo. Us newbies do appreciate your willingness to compile information to share with the hunting community. Thanks. Mr-Meteorite
Hey Scott, Next month's hunt will include Mike and Paul at the same dry lake bed. I do have many more hunts in the works including Holbrook, Glorieta, and Gold Basin. We'll also cover desert pavement and blow out hunting and much more.... VegasGuy
Ruben, I just wanted to say "nice job" on your meteorite-times web site and "thank you" for sharing the information. The videos you have done are great. I have watched them all, including the ones on You Tube. I am new at this but expect it will become a favorite past time. The wife and I have done quite a bit of geocaching because we love to get out and explore Nevada. This past week while watching the History Channel I saw an episode about meteorites. Part of the episode was about Bob Haag. At that moment it occurred to me it would be A LOT more fun to hunt meteorites than a hidden bucket of trinkets from the 99 cent store. Yesterday I went to a local hardware store and bought a few items used by others to hunt meteorites, mainly a couple of magnetic pick up tools. Last night the wife and I drove to a dry lake south of Vegas to watch the meteors. Before it got dark we hunted for meteorites. I knew the wife was going to enjoy our new hobby when she let out a loud squeal upon finding her first rock that stuck to her magnet. It was not a meteorite, but we enjoyed ourselves just the same. Again, thanks for sharing the information about a subject that is fascinating and fun, and thanks to this forum for providing the place to share. -Ike
Mr-Meteorite
Hey Ike, Thanks for the compliments! We (Mike,Paul and myself) just got back from filming another meteorite hunting adventure. It was amazing fun swinging a metal detector again, we found 13 meteorites all together! One of us found 6, one found 5, and one poor sap only found 2. You'll have to tune in to see who the "poor sap" was! It was a short hunt though, only about 4 hours long.
VegasGuy
Ruben, Your next video sounds like a great one to watch. I look forward to you releasing it. I would be particularly interested in a video covering the metal detectors used on this trip. With so many to choose from it would be very helpful to hear the pros and cons of the different technologies and how to adjust the settings. Maybe even "hear" what a meteorite sounds like on the various detectors compared to other buried junk and treasure. Sort of a metal detector reality show in the field -- what you hear, what you think it is, dig it up and then see what it really is. I have been reading a lot about detectors because I have the impression a good detector is an invaluable tool in this hobby. I do not want to spend hundreds of dollars only to learn later I should have bought something else. Keep 'em coming, Ike
Mr-Meteorite
Ike, It would be very hard to make a short 8-10 minute video that is interesting, informative, accurate and could cover all that you suggested. However, I think you have some Great Ideas for a metal detector instuructional video. I guess I assumed that most of us already know which metal detector to use and also have learned how to use it. Don't be surprised if in the near future I make a video for beginers that covers all that you stated. As far as what type of detector to use I have used mostly fisher, gold bug 2 and Gold Masters 2,3,4 from whites electronics. They will run from about $300-$600 for a used one. Many on this forum spend thousands on a detector because they also hunt gold. For meteorites a multi-thousand dollar detector is not needed. VegasGuy
Thanks for the info. I will keep an eye out for one of the detectors you mentioned.
