  1. Howdy Gang, Well, today I met up with Dolan Dave and I got a chance to show him Stewart Valley and boy did we have fun eyeballing meteorites! We arrived between 7:30 and 8:00 this morning and let me tell you, the wind was a killer! It must have been blowing 40 MPH. It was all I could do to see the rocks in front of me, but as soon as the sun rose above the mountain, it died down pretty quick. Dave was the first one to score ( we were using magnet canes the whole day), and I followed quickly behind. It seemed as soon as he found one, I'd find one too. By mid morning, Dave was kicking my butt, but that changed in no time short. I headed back to the finds made earlier in the morning and decided to hunt in a northern direction. A few meteorites later, and now almost lunch time, I came across a mini-hit strewn field. This was pretty cool, several pieces, 12 to be exact all laid out in small pattern. The farthermost meteorite was about 10 feet from the main mass. I called Dave over to see the meteorite and we tried our detectors on it to see if it would sound off. They did, but they would have to be pretty big to hear them due to the mineralization of the lake bed. After bagging and tagging, we kept hunting north and the meteorites finally played themselves out. I found two more and then we moved to the other side of the lake. The east side didn't offer anything, so we then moved south. Dave found a couple there, and by this time we were both feeling the effects of an hunting. So we decided to call it quits, Right? Well as we were driving off the lake, Dave spotted a few meteorites right in front of the truck about half way from our exit point. He backed up an found four and I found four more too. All in all a great day hunting, and scoring Stewart Valley meteorites. I haven't collected the weights as of yet maybe in the next day or so. Jason
  2. Howdy Gang, Well I made my 2nd annual trip south to Tucson for the Gem & Mineral show, and was hosted by John B. He is the finest host (and lets not forget Sweet Pea), one could ask for . I was there for a total of four days, but spent my annual income with-in the first 24 hrs. on more meteorites and even got a nice piece of the newest martian fall, Tissant . However, that left me with a little more than two days to spare. I got a chance to see the 13th annual Birthday Bash and the meteorite auction, but really wanted to go metal detecting. I took all my stuff for the hopes of going hunting for some meteorites or even gold and having John show me the ropes. Well, John made a phone call to Russ and Scotty (Studmuffin twins) and off we went. I figured I was going to come away empty handed, it is one of John's patches and he doesn't leave much behind , nonetheless, I'm competing with the twins. We hunted about 4 hours or so and didn't find any meteorites, but managed to snag a "dink-ette" . John and Scotty both got one too, so I felt pretty proud for finding some gold. Russ and Scotty are a great bunch of guys, needless to say, I was worried for my life on the way back, because I didn't know if they had eaten lunch (however, I knew I could probably outrun them if need be...) All-in-all a great trip down south, great show, and a great time spent with friends. Thanks again for the hospitality John, and thanks for not eating me Russ and Scotty... :hahaha: Jason Here is the "dink-ette", 0.20 dwt
  3. Howdy Folks, Met up wit Dolan Dave today and did a quick GB hunt. The wind a bit on the bothersome side, with gusts upwards to 40 mi. at least. Anyone who has owned a GP3500 and has had false signals due to wind can feel my pain today. Every time the wind blows the detector goes and gives a false signal. Plus, it seemed I was getting much more interference than usual, I'm thinking again due to the wind but not sure. Even the radio I had was getting interference. We walked quite a bit and we hit some old areas and try to find some new ones, with not too much luck in the new areas. Overall, we both came home with meteorites, but I'll let Dave mention his. My biggest for this trip was a whopping 370.6 grams. And I found 109 grams in other pieces, for a total of 479.6 grams. Happy Hunting, and until next time, Keep looking down.... Jason
  4. After a few dry sessions on the patch I'd been working, decided to try a nearby wash and found a couple nuggets, one small, .45 grams, the other is 12.75 grams, (.41 oz), my largest to date.
  5. Howdy Folks, Got out tonight for a quick park hunt while my son was at baseball practice. Spent about 40 mins. in an area about 30' x 10' and found $.76 cents, and a child's silver looking ring. It was stamped with the initials P.M.A. 23-4-92. All in all a nice cool hunt, with the weather just perfect. It's about that time in the season....Dust off the boots and let's have at it. Jason ;)
  6. Howdy Gang, Well this weekend is full of baseball, and honey-do's, so I decided to do a little night time park hunting. The first park was bleak, and a security guard showed up, so without any finds I quietly moved on. The next park was darker, with only a few people around it, so I went to work. Spent about two hours there, while my daughter was at a football game. Here are my finds for the night: 2 quarters 5 dimes 2 pennies And a Nato Military switch blade knife that was buried just under the surface, and a piece of aluminum. Not too bad for a little park. The weather was just right, cool with a light breeze, and not too many people...Just how I like it. Until next time....Keep looking down, Jason.
