  1. Welcome back to the forum Max. Been awhile! Glad to here you and Polly are doing better. Been doing a little prospecting here and there and an occasional detector lesson for Bill Southern especially since the Gold Monster has come on the scene. Lately since the first of the year I banged up my left knee ... walk with a pretty good limp right now and haven't been far from the house other than for work. Even tried to catch up to some of the other fellows by developing a melanoma behind my right ear and a squama cell growth on my left ear. Both have been successfully removed as of late. That melanoma would not have been seen early if I hadn't gone in for the squama cell  growth. Hope to soon be able to get back out and prospect a bit and continue with my bass fishing tournaments out of my kayak. That kayak has forced me to enter kayak bass fishing tournaments all over the country in the past few years. LOL! Forced me I say! :inocent: Any way glad you are back here ... you have a wealth of knowledge that some of these newbees and some of us old farts could learn from.

  2. Thanks guys and gals! Was a good but quiet birthday. Been awhile since I have been on the site. Life gets in the way. Mostly in a good way! Haven't been out in the field for a couple months due to a torn LCL in my left knee. Its getting better and hope to be out again in March.

  3. And that ladies and gentlemen is why I always carry some Benadryl liquid capsules in my pocket or pack when I am out by myself detecting. You just never know when those 'friendlies' will fire upon you! LOL! The reason I carry liquid caps is so I can put a dab directly on the sting and swallow the rest to help slow down the potential allergic reaction.

  4. Well done Mike! The tiny stuff definitely needs the 5 inch hockey puck. But as you found the larger elliptical coil does well and slightly better on the 0.5 gr and larger pieces at depth.  Definitely cover more ground with the larger coil and that is the trade-off as I see it. I still believe that to 'catch' it 'all' the 5" is the ticket. Or perhaps better said find the areas with gold with the larger coil and clean-up with the smaller coil. Again great job and information we can all use!

  5. Hey Gary ... Finally got a chance to view some of the forum. I think I have passed that volcanic feature before. :old: Can't remember the exact location but it sure looked familiar. Good video BTW! keep it up! Just as an aside  as we get older we tend to forget things ... at least I do on occasion. Don't be too hard on yourself forgetting the camera. Last time out I forgot the rechargeable battery for the Monster ...  good thing I had the backup in the box ... it saved the day! Let's both at least remember to bring plenty of water this summer!

I knew it was mine as I always paint them with florescent orange paint so I wont loose them...

Funny ... I have three or four of my scoops painted orange for when I was doing a lot of lessons. I have a blue one and a green on painted fluorescent orange still missing in LSD! LOL!

  7. Mr. Bedrock, sir, you would be correct in your concerns for all three. The bottom one is of particular concern to me. I don't believe that many people understand what is going to happen in the very near future with the value of money and the continuous printing of paper dollars. If the current monetary policy continues or is accelerated we are most likely heading for a depression. We have all been through a couple recessions in the past 20 years or so but not many if any have been through a true depression. That being said there are a few things folks can do right now to help prepare for what may come to pass! I don't want to post doom and gloom here this morning but with everyone out of work and businesses shuddered there is a real possibility of an extended recession if not a depression in the very near future. Here is a list of what has been suggested to do in advance by many to help when the depression hits:

    • Pay down debt. ...
    • Boost emergency savings. ...
    • Identify ways to cut back. ...
    • Live within your means. ...
    • Focus on the long haul. ...
    • Identify your risk tolerance. ...
    • Continue your education and build up skills.

  8. Shared a camp with Fred from time to time. He was a great guy and a good friend. Max, my Black Lab, will miss his specially prepared hot breakfast of egg and bacon that he prepared every day at camp just for Max! R.I.P. Fred ... until we meet again! Condolences to the family!

  9. Well I had a little conversation with Bill about the advertisements. As he posted above premium members don't see adds because they contribute $40.00 a year to help with the cost of running the forum ... which by the way the forum is not inexpensive to run. The advertisements help to defray the remaining cost of the forum. And even at that all the costs are not covered and then become costs of doing business. So now that I know that and you do also I hope we can all be tolerant of the advertisements to be able to continue to utilize what I consider to be the best forum ... members and information ... covering our mutual gold habit. Bottom line as I see it ... if you want to see the forum without adds become a premium member. That is what I am doing right now! (You can see the check I wrote below) Another way to support what Bill is doing for all of us is to support his you tube channel (Nugget Shooter Journals). And one last thing ... don't forget that Bill has a complete on line store. I know he would appreciate any business you care to give him.
