  1. "When converted to a diamond, the atoms go back in to a random order" crystals all have specific structures so i doubt diamond is any different(cubic system). Also unfortunately they are micro diamonds made by solar wind and meteorite impacts. chondrules are not from the big bang but formed from left over material from supernova. big bang made only light elements, while chondrules have iron and nickel, as well as heavy elements like uranium. type 2 supernova i think. they are around 4.5bill yrs old and big bang was 13.4billion yrs ago i think, my memory isn't that good after a few G yrs.
  2. i'm just a hobbyist but i'd agree with others that it's not a meteorite, at least not a chondrite. gold is associated with hydrothermal deposition from volcanoes and water, only a few meteorites-achrondites have been created as such-on planets with volcanic activity like mars, earth, moon, vesta..... so volcanic rocks shouldn't have chondrules in them. this is my theory/perspective, either that or maybe garimpo will be looking into borrowing the space shuttle. :woohoo: pallasite alex
  3. i won't disagree that looking into that won't help, all the info is good. but witnessed falls are recent, very few, and far between well compared to finds, while takes it millennia for them to weather away. also i think most would have been collected b4 they disintegrated or for urelites......eaten!! They can and do date terrestrial age of finds by, well i think by atmospheric chlorine radioisotope inclusions, all bet they don't date them too often, i couldn't find out how old willemite is for all my searching. come across any interesting info yourself? cheers pallasite alex
  4. when you guys find meteorites do you report your finds? who do you report it to? do you take down gps coords and do any science type bag and tag? thank you pallasite alex
  5. goldfinger, i'm sure you've noticed that i've also been interested in their weathering for some time, but i've generaly come up empty handed in any searches for information. some of the thing's i have found, are that the oldest is lake murray, USA an IAB iron 110mya: this being found in shale i'd guess would have been covered quickly in the cretaceous. also don't forget hoba, canyon diablo etc it is interesting to note that the oldest exposed one is from what i've read-wolf creek iron 300kyr. mostly rusted. (excluding antarctic ones) only study i've found was for chondrites in a US dessert,

  7. hmm spotty orange fusion crust.... it's not a meteorite from what i've seen, all rocks with iron are magnetic, since it's slightly magnetic but dense that doesn't match any other types of meteorites in any classes i've read about. still it would help to see inside of it. maybe you live in a past glacial region of the US? and the coat may be from some atmospheric reaction. my advice to you, is to have a look on the net or GE for nearest meteorite falls near you so you can know what type of rock is in your neck of the woods. happy hunting alexander

  10. unreal stuff mate, it's great to see such successes. the one with dimpless is a good quality(i recon) meteorite that has had much less weathering than the rest, the thumb prints are called regmaglypts "Regmaglypts - are thumbprint-like depressions on a meteorite caused by the uneven flow of air during passage through the atmosphere and the consequent surface melting and ablation." from meteorites aus. if you have time on a rainy day go to meteorites.com.au it has answers to alot of your questions and some good stories to. i have a question/s for you garimpo: how thick is the rust on those
  11. would you guys know the level of weathering on achrondites you found or terrestrial age and general condition. is there any data out there on achrondite age-terrestrial age that is. thank you for the info alexander
  12. sure resembles one, but i think only nasa could really tell you for sure, you could collect some local rock and see if it has any shocked quarz in it. i think more intrestingly, if it is the impact site of a main mass, it would mean there may be many more pieces, largest being closest to the crater and smaller ones further away in what ever direction it came in, maybe SE? hope you find some oversized iron's alexander

  14. nice web site, hey i have a question- like garimpo's patch of meteorites, would other locations of known finds be likely to consist of a strewn fields, with more undiscovered rocks?
  15. man that's awsome, for some reason it feels spiritual just looking at that. the large crystal, where they buried or where they originaly inside the cave/mine?.
