  4. Hi Jim, Wishing you a belated Happy Birthday and a wonderful New Year. I have always enjoyed your informative posts and the knowledge you share with everyone. I have read several of your books, in fact the last one I picked up at the General Store in Randsburg, (hi from the store).... Speaking of that I want to get out there soon, and see if I can find a few bits of shiny stuff.... Closer than the big AZ. Thanks again Jim for all you do and wishing you well, Jeff
  5. Chris, that sounds good, I have no secrets,'just stuff I have discovered, talking with, observing, and reading the experiences of others more knowledgable than. Years of cumulative experience to be found here, so why reinvent the wheel? Thanks to all of you guys who share valuable wisdom so freely! Can anyone explain the reason (s) the newer GB variants are superior to the original?? I know the frequencies are different, but the old one still finds Oro ! Thanks guys Jeff
  6. I have an original gold bug, probably at least 20 years old. My daughter detected a small nugget with it, quite shallow at a WSPA outing last summer, the detector gives of a clear zip over a target. Any comments about that machine from knowledgable guys is appreciated. Chris, you are doing the right thing, sooner or later you are going to swing over a nugget. I am wanting to get out to the Randsburg area soon, and will be happy to show you the area where I found two quarter gram bits, there is a target about every four feet or so there, mostly lead and brass. My belief is there is still gold there since others have either ignored the trash or not hunted that area, not to mention having found gold there myself.... If you want to meet up there send me a pm and we will set something up. Jeff

  18. I have an I phone. I read a post by Chris P. I think, wherein he suggested an ap (free), which I got. If you have cell service you can load usgs quads, USFS maps and another type of map. Remember you can only obtain maps if you have cell service..... So load all maps you may need before you lose service! When you get to your search area go to the ap and select the correct map... You need not have cell service for the gps to function... I am "challenged"' when it comes to this stuff, but I think for the price it is certainly worth checking out.. The application name is ihike ... Jeff
  19. Shep, Cool post, when I was a teenager I worked a summer in Anza Ca at a Rose Quartz quarry. The bunk house up on the side of a steep, rock strewn canyon. I clearly remember one afternoon after it had been raining for some time hearing a loud roaring and looking out over the canyon I saw a wild and wooly torrent ripping past. I could hear the rocks grinding and banging, no place for boogy boarding. Rocks, foam and brush. Probably only lasted a half hour or so but left a lasting impression.... Jeff
  20. Be weller soon Ron, look forward to seeing you in AZ. this fall! Jeff
