Rock and Mineral Forum Guidelines

There are just a few rules here and yup I do enforce them and keep an eye on things as best I can. Here are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow if you will be participating here. This forum is not moderated as heavily as the other sections so please do not enter or open a topic if you think you will be offended. If you are at least respond like an adult or we will remove your post as soon as brought to our attention.

Vulgar and abusive language is not welcome here! Heck a cuss word to get a point across is not so bad, but I think you know what I mean.

I will not host public arguments and pissing matches between individuals here so please just don't do it. When it happens the post most times will simply vanish into cyber space.

Political or Religious posts belong in "Off Topic" but surly you can find other forums that host those discussions if it is your thing, I don't think anyone cares if you are Conservative or Liberal when we are out hunting gold nuggets.

You may not use this forum to advertise any other dealer, store, or product without written permission by owner at any time. Used items are allowed in the classified section.

This forum is not responsible for anything said by it's members at any time. This is a public forum and will remain so and although I can and will occasionally zap "bad content" I don't do it often and so far have never permanently banned a person. Also opinions expressed here do not always represent the opinion of the forum's owner!

Guests are welcome to browse the forum and use the information provided by registered members, but you can not post yourself until you are a registered member.

That is pretty much it my fellow Nugget Shooters so enjoy the forum, keep it clean and play nice.

    • Fossils are silica replacement of organic material. They are agate and opal. This material is obviously neither. It looks like travertine. A very common carving and building stone. It is a sedimentary rock. It could certainly be a casting. But it is not a fossilized hand. Soft tissue rarely fossilizes. Skin does not fossilize and neither do decorations on the skin. The proportions are not that of a human hand. Neither are the curves of the fingers natural. The back of the hand is not the shape of a human hand. It is flattened and is decorated as well as the wrist. It is obviously an artistic rendition of a hand. We won't even go into the chronological impossibility of this being a fossilized hand. The obvious is plenty to determine this is a creation and not fossilization. No amount of diplomacy is going to make a fossilized human hand out of this. It is a neat artifact and if that was the discussion it would be an interesting one. But since this is being presented as something it is not the discussion is a nauseating trip into fantasyland. I'm sure the item has a real story. That story may be fascinating. But pretending and make-believe is a child's folly. There IS a story here. It seems that the real story is being avoided and some wild fantasy has taken its place. I like fantasy stories. They are excellent entertainment. But pretending they are real isn't something that most intelligent men waste much time on. The truth is always much more fascinating than any fairy tale that could be imagined.
    • Could be. I don't think it is too difficult  to inlay  mummified  finger nails or old teeth in a  casting.
    • Why are you keeping it??? I think it’s rather bizarre (sick) that you’d want to keep a human hand....
    • Maybe a poodle jaw carved by skilled Spanish masons to mark a rich BS deposit?
