Rock and Mineral Forum Guidelines

There are just a few rules here and yup I do enforce them and keep an eye on things as best I can. Here are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow if you will be participating here. This forum is not moderated as heavily as the other sections so please do not enter or open a topic if you think you will be offended. If you are at least respond like an adult or we will remove your post as soon as brought to our attention.

Vulgar and abusive language is not welcome here! Heck a cuss word to get a point across is not so bad, but I think you know what I mean.

I will not host public arguments and pissing matches between individuals here so please just don't do it. When it happens the post most times will simply vanish into cyber space.

Political or Religious posts belong in "Off Topic" but surly you can find other forums that host those discussions if it is your thing, I don't think anyone cares if you are Conservative or Liberal when we are out hunting gold nuggets.

You may not use this forum to advertise any other dealer, store, or product without written permission by owner at any time. Used items are allowed in the classified section.

This forum is not responsible for anything said by it's members at any time. This is a public forum and will remain so and although I can and will occasionally zap "bad content" I don't do it often and so far have never permanently banned a person. Also opinions expressed here do not always represent the opinion of the forum's owner!

Guests are welcome to browse the forum and use the information provided by registered members, but you can not post yourself until you are a registered member.

That is pretty much it my fellow Nugget Shooters so enjoy the forum, keep it clean and play nice.

    • The vesicles were my fault I burnt it where it's white because that's just what I do and call myself "testing it". It's really one that would have to be seen in person I guess.
    • He's coming at us with trash bro. If you are digging gold in a trashy area you just have to learn to go slow and dig it all.  If you are digging gold in a clean area you will get more gold than trash. But that has nothing to do with the detector. Maybe some detectors can help you differentiate targets without losing gold. They do that through sound and not so much discrimination. Many detectors have a very articulate signal. You can almost tell the shape of the target from the sound. But you are going to have to dig a few bucketfulls of trash to learn how to do that.  You are still going to dig those "ragged" signals that you know is not gold. If you are in a hot patch you will gladly dig every fleck of rust and every follicle of wire. In some patches that is just a fact of life.
    • In all seriousness, i find a butt load of trash when i run my Equinox also! When we are chasing coins and relics, there are so many GREAT SIGNALS that sound good, look good and just plain feel good and you end up digging trash. Unfortunately that is what a metal detector does! It finds metal. I just dont see you not finding ANY trash! The way you are coming at us with every post about trash, you are making it sound like every single target you find is gold!! Maybe explain to us your method of not finding trash??
    • Get a good mineral light with both shortwave and longwave UV. We have one of these 11watt models: https://ultraviolet-tools.com/ultraviolet-lamps-/enhanced-11-watt-shortwave-midwave-longwave-uv-lamp.html these are samples of calcedony (green) and calcite (red) I collected from the Franconia site. No meteorites, but doing this was fun!
    • I have been out in the desert at night for the past three summers using a cheapo UV flashlight.  I have found several nice specimens of calcite that really glows nicely. I know if I had a decent light with the proper filter I could find some valuable specimens. Do any of you guys hunt for flourescent minerals? What light do you use? What do you recommend? Im not a collector and I dont intend to use the light to illuminate a display. I want one that I can carry around at night and collect bugs and minerals. Any input on the subject would be nice!
