METEORITE HUNTING and COLLECTING

For Discussion related to hunting and collecting of Meteorites With or Without a Metal Detector

Meteorite Forum Guidelines

There are just a few rules here and yup I do enforce them and keep an eye on things as best I can. Here are a few guidelines I'd like you to follow if you will be participating here. This forum is not moderated as heavily as the other sections so please do not enter or open a topic if you think you will be offended. If you are at least respond like an adult or we will remove your post as soon as brought to our attention.

Vulgar and abusive language is not welcome here! Heck a cuss word to get a point across is not so bad, but I think you know what I mean.

I will not host public arguments and pissing matches between individuals here so please just don't do it. When it happens the post most times will simply vanish into cyber space.

Political or Religious posts belong in "Off Topic" but surly you can find other forums that host those discussions if it is your thing, I don't think anyone cares if you are Conservative or Liberal when we are out hunting gold nuggets.

You may not use this forum to advertise any other dealer, store, or product without written permission by owner at any time. Used items are allowed in the classified section.

This forum is not responsible for anything said by it's members at any time. This is a public forum and will remain so and although I can and will occasionally zap "bad content" I don't do it often and so far have never permanently banned a person. Also opinions expressed here do not always represent the opinion of the forum's owner!

Guests are welcome to browse the forum and use the information provided by registered members, but you can not post yourself until you are a registered member.

That is pretty much it my fellow Nugget Shooters so enjoy the forum, keep it clean and play nice.

Well the rules here are a bit different as I welcome meteorites for sale you have collected or found yourself, but no store or dealer ads at any time and this includes eBay links! Naturally the main reason for this forum is education, but collecting is also a big part of this subject. So No crappy or degrading posts or they will be deleted, other than that post away!

Bill

    • Maybe you should take the little guy out and get him some sun once in a while. It has been so long since you two have done any serious beeping he is probably low on vitamin D. I'm just messing with you a bit Weaver. Don't get too wrapped around the axle. It is all in good fun!
    • Yeah those 3" 50 cannon can be a bit noisy in a gun tub on a ship.  We also fired 5" 38 cannon.  The only thing that we had for hearing was cotton.  Also it was dirty and exposed to everything foul around the ship.  Today the government is being sued by vets for not providing the proper ear protection while firing ordnance.  That doesn't go for us guys that didn't have any ear protection at all or very little.  My hearing is very bad and the tinnitus is constant but the VA says that I make too much money to qualify for hearing aids.  Go figure that.  I can still hear those Chichadas though.       Old Tom
    • I means zip to me, except in a vicarious way.  My only thoughts were that folks need to get outdoors where the chance of transmission is nil. Vit D is a big booster for the immune system. Get some sun, folks. Don't worry  about me,Bob. I wouldn't want your brain cell to have a stroke. Never been to one of the outings, as I am not a serious beeper. By the way, I got your little guy right here
    • I appreciate your input.  It certainly could very well be and probably is.  Just surprised how dense and heavy the stone is and it appears more melted rather than weathered but this is not my area of expertise.   I also have these two stones below if someone could be kind enough to chime in that would be appreciated thanks. They both appear to be some sort of conglomerates??  The pretty one is very heavy and has small gold like incursions through out its matrix.  Has a hard plastic/pyroxene ...? type feel to the stone.  It weighs almost 6 pounds.  My daughter sanded it down a bit to bring out its masculine features.     When I went to cut a slice off the second stone it crumbled while cutting which I thought was quite odd.  The stone visually appears quite old and weathered but it remains solid, intact with no fractures, as far as I can see anyways.  My offspring tumbled the fragments and she sanded them with 600 wet grit, photo attached below, revealing an interesting 3D like appearence of the stones within the larger stone.   We just have no clue what kind of stones they are and they were both found in far different locations in the province of Alberta.  Be awesome to know what kind of rocks these are.  Thanks.
