    • I may be wrong, but I think of natural concretions as looking like cheap concrete mixtures and in my mind is the other type of sedimentary rock besides sandstone.  I guess quartz and many other rocks can be sedimentary rock, but to me doesn't look it.  IMHO, I would not break the rock open.  The story to finding the rock is not worth the risk of losing it if you crack it open and find nothing.  Slicing it with a rock saw would be better, but still not the risk of losing the family pet rock.
    • Hey Guys,    Speaking of iron discrimination, I'm not going to say it's great or not.  However, it's not uncommon to pick up a specimen with a mixture of gold and iron with a strong magnet.  Years back I was pushing a target around for a bit, then with the scoop, finally got tired and ran the magnet over it ..... GONE!  A friend just happen to say, "looks like there is a small rock on your super magnet," which was attached to the top of my pick.  Low and behold, it was a small specimen of quartz/iron/gold that lightly stuck to my super magnet.   Just something to think about.
    • Clay, What you do for the prospecting community is way to under recognized. It gives me a chuckle when I see people utilizing other avenues of research for this hobby instead of  www.mylandmatters.org . You have created such a user friendly interface, with a wealth of data that others only dreamed of achieving. Thank you for everything that you do for us. Adam
