What mineral is this?

Recommended Posts

Hello, friends,

I found this mineral, and I'm really curious - what is it? It transmits the light really well... :)

Waiting for your answers... thanks. :)

Well a partial ID is quartz, not sure on what the inclusion mineral is.

The inclusion appears to be the same green color as a many copper ore types.  Other info could help like history and location of the find.  To me the non-green part looks milky in one photo and transparent in the other photo.

Very difficult to tell from a photo alone. You have more info like specific gravity and hardness?

if I had to guess (and that's all it would be) based on the photo alone, I'd say green calcite.

Calcite, almost looks like Bisbee material.

Try a scratch test, if it's calcite you should be able to scratch it easily with a knife or a nail, if you can't then I would say quartz, calcite has a hardness of 3, quartz a hardness of 7, average knife blade hardness of 5 to 5.6, a nail around 5.
